The El-Ayoun Stream Wall ... the strangest water project in the world is being carried by Cairo

The wall of the stream of El-Ayoun, its stones stacked in silence for five centuries or more, tells the story of an Islamic civilization that excelled in the arts, sciences and architecture on the land of Egypt.

The wall begins at the mouth of the Gulf in ancient Egypt and ends at the Bab al-Qarafa gate of Mrs. Aisha.

In relation to the Mahara Al-Ayoun wall in that area, the ancient street that bears the wall was named.

As for Sur Street, the course of El-Ayoun, it was not originally a street for citizens to live and pass through, but rather it was an empty place in the middle of the distance between ancient Egypt, where Amr Ibn Al-Aas and Fatimid Cairo, the obsession with supplying the castle with water since its construction and moving the seat of government to it has been sleeping the kings and sultans.

So Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi dug a well to deliver water to the castle and was known as “Yusuf Well”, but it was not sufficient to meet the water needs of the castle during the Mamluk era. Therefore, the engineers of the government of Sultan Muhammad bin Qalawun saw that this area is suitable for implementing a large water project to raise and transfer water from the depression of the Nile River West of the street to the height of the Citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi east of the street, so the engineers constructed a huge wall from the beginning of the street to its end, carrying a small canal over a huge group of arches that ended by pouring its water into a group of huge wells inside the castle to supply the castle with sufficient water.

The Wall of El-Ayoun stream is considered one of the most amazing water architectural projects in the world
