One of the most important customs that characterize the Pharaonic civilization is mummification, a complex puzzle that baffled scientists, and did not arrive at how to do it to preserve the bodies of the dead for thousands of years, as did the ancient Egyptian.
The importance of mummification is due to the ancient Egyptian belief in the importance of preserving the body after death to ensure immortality in the other world, so mummification was an essential element in the funeral practices of the ancient Egyptians, and it was symbolically supervised by the idol Anubis.
The mummification process goes through many complex steps that used to take about 70 days, during which many rituals are practiced and spells are read, as the organs of the deceased are carefully removed through a small incision in his body and kept in containers known as canopic vessels, then the body is dried using Natron salt, and finally It is wrapped in a coil of linen, and magic amulets are placed inside wraps around different parts of the mummy to protect the body, and at the end the family of the deceased carries a mummy to put in a coffin for burial.
The Mummification Museum, in Luxor Governorate, provides a comprehensive introduction to the whole process, by explaining the religious significance of mummification and the rituals associated with it, with a display of many tools used, and the museum also displays a collection of canopic vessels, mummified mummies, elaborately decorated sarcophagi, amulets, and statues of deities.
As for the museum visit dates, they are divided into two periods, the morning appointments: 9 am to 1.30 pm, and the ticket window closes at 1 pm.
Evening appointments: start from 5 pm to 8:30 pm
And the box office closes at 8 pm.
